In Chapter 74 of “We Solve Murders,” Amy and Steve find themselves outside The Brass Monkey, a pub adorned with flowers that contrasts the relaxed summer atmosphere filled with chatter and laughter. As they wait, they engage in light banter regarding their feelings about returning and the idea of participating in a pub quiz that night. Amy appreciates the normal conversations they have about life in New Forest, although she prefers observing it from a distance rather than living it herself.

Soon, Rosie joins them carrying an overnight bag and expresses her satisfaction with The Pig, aside from the unsettling presence of a hitman, Eddie, who’s still pursuing her. This leads Rosie to voice her concerns about Vasiliy Karpin, another potential threat. The group hints at tensions and unresolved matters as they discuss their safety, bringing their focus back to the quiz awaiting them inside.

As they enter The Brass Monkey, they are greeted by a lively crowd ready for the weekly quiz night. Among the familiar faces, Amy spots Jyoti and John at a table, but she is caught completely off guard when Martin, who is actually Jeff Nolan, reveals himself. Jeff’s supposed demise was a ruse to escape François Loubet, who was trying to kill him. He maintains that to lay low, he chose to hide at Steve’s house before making a surprising appearance at the quiz.

The atmosphere shifts as they probe into how deep the trouble goes. Jeff explains that both he and Amy are in danger from Loubet, who has ties that complicate their situation even further, hinting that Henk—part of their team—is involved as well. A playful battle of knowledge about a soap opera star ensues between Henk and Jeff, culminating in Amy exasperatedly providing the correct answer.

Throughout their encounter, camaraderie and suspense intertwine as they navigate the complexities of their relationships and threats encroaching upon them, all while attempting to enjoy what should be a simple pub quiz. As they move forward, Amy wonders if they will ever fully unravel the layers of danger surrounding them amidst the quizzical atmosphere .

We Solve Murders by Stephanie Vance is a thrilling mystery that follows a team of skilled investigators as they work together to crack complex, high-stakes cases. With each new investigation, the team uncovers secrets, motives, and twists that keep readers on the edge of their seat. The novel explores themes of teamwork, justice, and the intricacies of solving crimes, offering a compelling look at the pursuit of truth and the consequences of uncovering hidden realities.

In Chapter 74 of “All the Colors of the Dark,” Saint assists Patch in selecting clothes from his father’s belongings. As he changes, she steals glances at him, reflecting on the scars that tell a deeper history between them. This leads to her efforts in reaching out to several organizations, including the Federal Missing Persons Unit and the Aileen Plattas Foundation, hoping to find more information about Patch. Her discoveries reveal small, unofficial agencies struggling to preserve memories and help those who have faced loss.

Patch expresses his nervousness, revealing that he isn’t dressed formally for the occasion. Saint attempts to lighten the mood by offering him a bright red bowtie, teasing him as he struggles with his appearance. Their connection deepens as Patch admits he missed her during his absence, and though she turns away to hide her emotions, the moment marks a significant point in their relationship.

The two venture to Main Street, where Saint buys a peach bouquet with the last of her money. Despite Patch’s reluctance, he follows her toward the larger houses. At the Green’s Convenience Store, they encounter Jimmy Walters, who notices Saint’s attire and comments on Joseph’s return. Their conversation reveals mutual gratitude for prayers answered, and Saint feels a longing for the simplicity and purity she perceives in Jimmy’s view of the world.

After their encounter, she heads back to her home to change into dungarees. Once dressed, she adorns her face with colors reminiscent of her childhood. Amongst the thicket, she lays on a blanket in the long grass and uses her camera to capture the Tooms house, lost in thoughts of Patch. The chapter closes with a poignant acknowledgment of her sense of losing Patch bit by bit each day, illustrating the depth of her connection and the emotional turmoil she experiences over his absence.
